Often Wrong is a Vancouver-based posthardcore band combining emotionally vulnerable songwriting with the intensity of emo, screamo, and art rock. Drawing inspiration from bands like Unwound and Slint, alongside the writing of Franz Kafka and Sylvia Plath, the band pairs spoken-word monologues and jagged dynamics with explosive screamed choruses. Their music moves between restraint and chaos, balancing intimate tension with cathartic release. By relentlessly playing shows and building connections within Vancouver’s underground music community, Often Wrong has established itself as a distinctive voice within the city’s thriving emo and screamo scene. Their sound bridges the raw urgency of skramz and post-hardcore with a more atmospheric, art rock sensibility. The band’s debut EP, “The Figs Are Starting to Rot”, was released on November 28, 2025, and liverecorded at Oscar McManus’ home studio, reflecting the band’s deeply rooted DIY ethos. Exploring themes of isolation, depression, and fear of abandonment, the EP uses stark quiet-to-loud dynamics and abrasive textures to mirror emotional instability and vulnerability.
